The Zenmuse Z3 camera has up to a 7x zoom, bringing together a 3.5x optical zoom and a 2x digital zoom. DJI is marketing the Z3 as a tool for industrial applications such as inspections and search and rescue. This allows the user to fly at a safe distance from the object they are trying to photograph/video.

Flying Platforms

The Zenmuse Z3 is compatible with many of DJI’s flying platforms such as Inspire 1, Matrice 100 and Matrice 600. The small and lightweight design of the Z3 allows for extended flight times with DJI’s flying platforms. Flight times with the Inspire 1 are quoted at 19 minutes, 30 minutes with the Matrice 100 and 39 minutes with the Matrice 600. The zoom for the Zenmuse Z3 is controlled within the DJI GO application and features a custom “reaction wheel” on its yaw axis, this allows for more precise and controlled movement when the lens is zoomed in.
