What and When to Calibrate your DJI Drone

WHAT SHOULD I CALIBRATE?

WHEN SHOULD I CALIBRATE?

With the release of the newer Phantom 4 series, the Pro and Pro+, and the hard to come by Mavic there are many new drone pilots that are getting their feet wet in the aerial business. Many of our customers ask us about maintenance and calibration. Below we talk a bit about what to calibrate and when to calibrate your DJI Drone.

calibrate

Compass Calibration:

  • It is always a good idea to calibrate your compass whenever you have a change of environments.
  • So you may be wondering what defines an environment? A change of environment is  defined as a distance between locations of more than 5 miles.

IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) Calibration:

  • The IMU does not need to be calibrated before each flight.
  • We recommend calibrating the IMU when you receive your unit, if we have not already performed it.
  • When prompted to do so.
  • It is a good idea to calibrate the IMU after a light crash or if you see a change of flight characteristics.

Camera Gimbal Calibration:

  • You should calibrate your Camera and Gimbal after every IMU calibration.
  • When prompted to do so.
  • After a light crash.
  • If you notice a horizon drift in your videos or photos.

Remote Control Calibration:

  • Your remote control should also be calibrated when you receive your unit, if we have not already done so.
  • Once every 6 months.
  • Or When prompted to do so.

Lens Calibration:

  • Certain cameras on drones, such as the X5, X5R, Phantom 4 Pro/Pro+, and the Mavic, require a lens calibration.
  • You should calibrate your lens when you receive your unit.
  • We recommend calibrating before each new flight, not required.
